World Book Day Celebration at First Assalam School

The First Assalam School celebrated World Book Day on the 9th and 10th of March, 2022.  The two-day event included a variety of activities, with students of all classes participating in storytelling, cultural lectures, poetry recitation competitions, discussion of different books, and competitions for drawing the most beautiful cover of a story or book, as well as representative scenes and workshops.

Stalls and reading corners were set up all across the school in which four classes came at a time to conduct reading activities.  Students immersed themselves in a variety of books and were then given tasks such as designing their own bookmark, writing a character description, writing the summary of the story, or simply just engaging in some art and craft activities!  Students were thrilled at the opportunity to partake in learning outside the classroom and commented that they really enjoyed and learned a lot from the two-day event.

The purpose of the event was to promote and spread the culture of reading, spreading awareness of its importance in addition to promoting books in various languages.  We want our students to appreciate the value of a book and encourage them to invest their spare time by reading books and increasing their vocabulary and general literacy skills.   It was indeed a beautiful display and celebration of literacy of all three languages taught at the school namely, English, Urdu, and Arabic.
